PrimeArray Introduces ServStation DH Family of CD/DVD Servers
New servers store over 1,000 CD-ROMs or 300 DVDs and feature higher performance and unique new features.
Feb 7, 2005—Chelmsford, MA—PrimeArray Systems, Inc. (PrimeArray) today announced immediate availability of the ServStation DH family of CD- and DVD-ROM network attach servers, designed to enable the effortless integration of large CD and DVD-ROM libraries into the rapidly evolving network storage environment.
Built upon the capabilities of PrimeArray's ServStation family of hard-drive caching CD servers, the ServStation DH incorporates a new design for its embedded thin server hardware. The higher performance of the new hardware platform allows PrimeArray to now offer highly scalable CD/DVD server configurations with enormous data storage capacities. The improved hardware platform also enables the incorporation of new technologies, such as fault-tolerant RAID configurations, models that offer the flexibility of generalized read-write NAS storage, and network CD-R/DVD-R recording. PrimeArray is now able to offer these improved capabilities, increased reliability, and greater flexibility, all at a lower price.
PrimeArray's ServStation DH in similar in concept to a virtual CD/DVD jukebox, though with higher speed and greater reliability. It enables network users to create and share DVD images with the same ease and simplicity as creating and sharing CD images. Content can be stored upon the high-capacity hard drives, or shared directly across the network via direct access readers.
The new CD/DVD servers are equally at home in multiple network environments and can simultaneously be accessed by Windows, UNIX/Linux, or Macintosh network clients.
The ServStation DH also incorporates a new data archiving feature. This is the only archiving solution that offers the capability to automatically transfer file based data from NAS storage to CD/DVD image-based storage, and then copy the resulting images to optical media. Furthermore, all of the data transfer that occurs during the archiving process takes place internally without impacting the performance of the main network. The data archiving features of the ServStation DH are tailored for use in the kinds of paperless systems used by government, schools, law firms, and private enterprise, film-capture & image processing systems used by hospitals, libraries, circuit-design and publication houses, as well as general file storage applications in workgroups, departments and projects with data archiving requirements.
A breakthrough feature, local CD drive emulation, is specifically engineered for education environment and enables schools to maximize the educational potential of their current CD library. Many educational titles and games in Windows environments will only operate while the original CD is inserted into the local PC's CD drive. In the past such discs could not be used over a network. PrimeArray's ServStation DH overcomes this limitation and allows discs on the server to appear exactly as if they were in actual CD drives attached to the PC.
Custom configurations of the ServStation DH are available in various mixtures of 1 to 6 CD- and/or DVD-ROM readers or writers. Hard drive storage capacities scales from the equivalent of 80 to 1000 CD-ROM images, or 10 to 300 DVD images.
